Long Term Food Storage Page
This is The Survival Center's Page for
Emergency and Long Term Storage Food
This is a list of the categories of emergency and long term storage food we carry and a little about their uses and cost.
MRE's - Meals, Ready To Eat - No Cooking required
1. MRE's = Meals, Ready To Eat - Full Meal packs 12 per case. 6 menus twice per case. This is the easiest food to store and eat in any emergency. Only your fingers are required. This is the food you see being used in most of the disasters and emergency situations around the world. Just like the military MRE's only made for general civilian use. See below for details.
Freeze Dried Foods - No Cooking required. Just Add Water.
2. Freeze Dried Foods are the second easiest food to use in most any emergency. You just need to add water, wait 10 minutes and eat. No cooking is required. Hot water makes a hot meal and cold water makes a cold meal.
Air Dried - Dehydrated Foods
3. Air Dried Food in #10 cans ( about a gallon size )Many of the air dried foods will require some cooking to help rehydrate them. Many do not, for example apple sauce granules only require cold water and then you are ready to eat. Potato granules are instant mashed potatoes and if you add them to boiling water along with some salt and butter you are ready to eat. Peas, corn carrots require 10-15 minute simmer to rehydrate. Please note the variety we put in our units for a more balanced diet.
Grains, Beans, Seeds, Legumes in poly buckets
4. Grains, beans, seed, and legumes packed for long storage in poly buckets. These items are your least expensive and generally require more work to be able to eat them. Wheat, for instance, needs to be ground into flour for bread, rolls, and pancakes. This means you will need a grain mill which we also have available.
5. Canned Real Butter and Real Cheese.
Garden Seeds
6. Garden Seeds: 40 Variety garden seed pack of heirloom, non-hybrid seeds.

Real Butter in Cans
Red Feather Brand Canned Butter from New Zealand
Now Available in the US
For years we've been looking for a product that would solve the problem of having a cooking oil or something that one could use to cook with in a long term food storage situation. Many have asked us about storable butter, and we've had to turn them away. Now that problem has been resolved and you can have smooth, creamy, high-quality butter . . . and who cares if the electricity goes off??
Eat it right out of the can, or open both sides of the can after a couple of hours of being in the fridge, and slide the whole thing right out on your favorite serving dish.
Ballantyne is the world's largest producer of canned butter. Sealed airtight for maximum freshness, their canned butter delivers convenience in the form of extended shelf life and easy distribution without the necessity of refrigeration. It has also proven ideal for disaster preparedness, camping, boating and remote areas where refrigeration is not freely available.
A free range farming system in Australia and New Zealand allows Ballantyne to produce butter of the highest quality. New Zealand government regulations assure that butter is packed under strict quality controlled conditions. Their factory is ISO, GMP and HACCP accredited and an export permit issued by New Zealand authorities is required prior to the export of any of our butter products.
If you have been looking to add REAL butter, not powdered or Freeze Dried, to your long term food storage program, than look no further! For the first time in our history of offering all kinds of shelf stable foods for disaster preparedness, we have been very fortunate to have found a canned butter that is imported from New Zealand that actually tastes better than any gourmet butter we had ever tried – and with a 10 + year shelf life, no refrigeration is necessary!!
GREAT FOR CAMPING! PERFECT FOR THE BOAT OR RV!
And the best part (besides the great taste) is the list of ingredients; Pasteurized Cream and Salt – that’s it!! No preservatives, food colorings or chemicals of any kind, just naturally made wholesome butter from down under.
Serving Size; 1 Tbsp (14g) Servings per container: 24 Calories; 100 Calories from fat 100 % Daily Value Total fat; 11g 17% Saturated fat; 8g 40% Cholesterol; 30mg 9% Sodium; 65mg 3% Total Carbohydrates; 0g 0% Protein; 0g 0% Vitamin A 8%
You'll find that it is not only lower in Saturated Fat than the average American butter, but it also has almost 1/3rd less Sodium as well. Each can contain 12 oz of butter - which works out to three traditional sticks of butter.
Product of New Zealand
Please note that this product is certified Halal.

Real Cheese in Cans Now Available
Red Feather Canned Cheese Now Available in the USA.
Now available in the US after 109 years in the international market, Red Feather private labeled Canned Cheese from Bega is perfect for anyone needing an indefinately shelf life without refrigeration.
Available in cases of 36 cans, 7.97 ounces per can.
If you have been looking to add REAL cheese (not powdered or Freeze Dried) to your long term food storage program, than look no further!
GREAT FOR CAMPING! PERFECT FOR THE BOAT OR RV!
A MUST-HAVE FOR ANY LONG TERM STROAGE FOOD PLAN or DISASTER PREPAREDNESS KIT
For years we've had people ask us about real, shelf-stable, storable cheese, and we've had to turn them away. Now you can have a great tasting, rich, high-quality cheese . . . and who cares if the electricity goes off??
For the first time in our history of offering all kinds of shelf stable foods for disaster preparedness, we have found a canned cheese made by Bega, one of the oldest and best names in the industry, and private labeled for us under our Red Feather brand, which is normaly only available in the Middle East and Australia.
One product that has always been missing from food storage programs is been real CHEESE, but we now have real Bega® / Red Feather Cheddar Cheese in stock - in a can!!!
Powdered and Freeze Dried cheese products have been available for years, and they are actually not too bad for some applications. They make an excellent sauce, dip or spread, but there’s just something not right about spreading cheese on your sandwich like it was peanut butter. For some things, there is no substitute for the real thing.
Each can contains 7.97 Ounces of real Cheese, and the cans are a little larger in diameter than a 6 oz. can of tuna and about 25% taller.
We’ve leaned that the best way to serve it is if you open both ends of the can and then push out the 3 1/4" x 1 3/4" mini-wheel of cheese. You’ll find that it doesn’t sag, it doesn't quiver and it doesn't run – it is solid cheese!
This is real cheese that can be grated like any other cheese. It melts, it can be sliced into thin slices for sandwiches, pizzas, lasagna or meat loaf, and it behaves just like any other deli-bought cheese – it’s great for grilled cheese sandwiches, fantastic omelets or just by the slice.
It's packaged this way in Australia and in the Middle East for folks who don't have refrigeration, like many in the outback or in third world countries. The manufacturer is confident it will last "indefinitely". Since it's in a sterile environment, air can't circulate so germs can't get to it - there's no reason that it can't store indefinitely. Just keep it as cool as you can (protect from freezing). And once it's opened, it's best to refrigerate any leftovers, though it will most likely last a few more days in a zipper-locking baggie or tinfoil without refrigeration.

Most 6-gallon poly buckets are packed with oxygen absorbers. Some of the smaller buckets may be packed with Nitrogen, Bay leaves or oxygen absorbers depending on availability.
Minimum order 200 # . We get special rates with UPS if we ship 200# or more at the same time to the same place. The more the weight the cheaper the freight rate. Price and availability subject to change without notice. Please call to confirm availability and current price information. Most buckets over 25#'s are 6 gal. These prices do not include freight.
The Survival Center has been packaging and distributing long term storage food since the early 1970's. We helped to pioneer many of the methods and food storage units in use today.
Quality - We always produce the finest quality premium foods available for long term storage. We use oxygen absorbers to pack most grains in poly buckets. We use as much organic foods as possible and always search for foods that are grown as naturally as possible. Our Wheat is grown in the high regions of the west, triple - cleaned and carefully packed to assure the longest shelf life. Most buckets are 6 gal. poly buckets.
Shelf-life - How long will our Nitrogen packed buckets last? Properly cared for (cool & dry) our grains will last along time. How long? Don't know for sure, however some of the grain we packed over 17 years ago still test A-OK! One of our earlier experiments with wheat packed 29 years ago is still good. We opened some up and made muffins. They were yummy!!
Garden Seeds
- Store your own garden seeds for future use. Keep Cool & Dry.40 packet of 52 seed varieties of garden seeds. Heirloom, non-hybrid seeds pack. Enough for a family of 4-5 to plant a good sized garden, including enough for a seed saver section ( plant some just for seed for future use ), and have enough to can and perserve for the winter plus eat fresh from the garden well into the fall.
“The best seed anywhere!” That’s what our customers have been telling us. Delicious vegetables and garden fruits grown from our nutritionally balanced, 100% non-hybrid, non-GMO heirloom seed packages will not only nourish families with healthful, fresh and preserved foods but, unlike store-bought hybrids and patented GMOs, their seed can be saved for future crops. Now that’s food security!
40 Packets of Life-Sustaining Vegetable, Fruit and Herb Seeds containing 52 seed varieties. How are there 52 seed varieties in 40 packets? Because, as long as supplies last, you will receive, among your 40 packets, one with six rare heirloom tomatoes from Russia, Europe, Cherokee native Americans, and more! Another packet contains eight different red and green lettuces and endive! Remember: you don’t need to grow out all 52 vegetable varieties this year or even next! MRE Tray Packs
We have several tray packs (large flat cans) available. They serve 18 per tray with 4 trays per case or 72 servings per case. Current availability: 1. Pork Ribs, Boneless, Formed, in BBQ Sauce 2. Beef Paties - either one @$89.95 per case + s&h. Limited Availability.
The picture at the right compares a tray pack to a single entree pouch. The tray pack has 18 servings per tray (2/3 cup)with 4 trays per case. These are great buys. We recently did a test at a friends evening family dinner . There were 14 people present including 3 younger teen boys and two older teen girls and other adults of various ages. We served three tray packs of different varieties along with some salad, steamed veggie and 1/2 garlic bread stick per person. We put a 1 cup measuring cup in each tray ( recommended serving size is 2/3 cup ) and gave each a full one cup serving times three. That is is lot of food. Most came back for seconds of at least one of the tray pack entrees and the teens came back for seconds and thirds. Boy, were we surprised. We even had some left over.
These tray packs really have a lot of food in them. You can warm them up in your oven, over a camp fire, wood heater top, or most any heat source ( they even taste o.k. cold). Please take advantage of this offer while they are still available.

Why the book "Basic Preparedness"
is so important?
Because it saves you time and money. It takes most of the guess work out of figuring what and how much to store. The charts offer a quick and easy reference. It is a "How To" Guide for Preparedness and Self-Reliant Living.
This is an Emergency Preparedness Manual that teaches the reader How - To prepare for most anything that threatens their Survival. The idea of preparedness is spreading rapidly among those waking up to the reality of today's chaotic economic, geologic, political and environmental climate. There are many reference books available that deal with specific areas of preparedness for an uncertain future. That's the problem. There are too many books. Most of us are busy, and reading time is precious, this is why Basic Preparedness was written. Save Time and Money preparing with "Basic" Preparedness"
